Krofft Supershow

Wow. I just found some videos from the Krofft Supershow, which aired on Saturday mornings when I was a kid. If you're around my age, maybe you'll remember watching Wonderbug, ElectraWoman and DynaGirl, Bigfoot and Wildboy, or Dr. Shrinker (while eating bowls of cereal). I love the maniacal expressions of Dr. Shrinker. Plus, his assistant was played by Billy Barty. Gotta love the Barty.

Taste of Chaos

On Monday night, the boy and I went to the Taste of Chaos concert. It was a group of rock acts, mostly "metal" although there is at this point sufficient variation among metal bands that a metal fan can go to a metal show and not hear his own preferred style of music.

Overall it was pretty cool, although being unfamiliar with most of the music, I had to be content to nod in time and clap and yell "Woo" at appropriate times. There were times that it seemed like these ¨metal¨ bands were really just pop bands, like today´s version of what Van Halen was in the late 1980s. But with more skulls and fire and whatnot.

Bands we saw: D'espairsRay, MUCC, Idiot Pilot, The Underneath, Bullet for my Valentine, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold.

Three of the bands were Japanese, and it was actually pretty cool to see them play. They all had a lot of energy and put on good shows. Idiot Pilot had a completely different style than the other bands, and then they seemed to get pissed off when the audience didn´t respond to their music.

The headliner was Avenged Sevenfold, and before they came to the stage, there was a beskulled digital clock on large video screens counting down the fifteen minutes before the band came on. The dudes behind us thought the clock was cool, and one of them suggested that they should take a picture of it at the moment it displayed 6:66. It took them several minutes to realize that there is no such time.

Alice of Hazzard

This past weekend, I was flipping channels on the boob tube, and I happened upon something weird. It was an episode of Alice in which, apparently, the gals at the diner (and Mel) were trying to avoid being swindled by Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazzard. Boss Hogg was there with his white convertible, and Enos in tow, and he was huffing and puffing and sweating as he is wont to do.

I didn't realize that the Boss's reach extended all the way to ... Phoenix, was it? I don't remember this particular adventure. I realize that I could get on the Web and find out everything I could ever want to know about this episode. Probably with nude pictures of Flo.

Yes, I imagine that there's a perfectly reasonable explanation why Hogg and Enos were in Arizona. But I'm not going to look it up. I'm happy to have been surprised by an unexpected television crossover. It made me laugh. Well, it made me sorta smile.

The Game

So I was confused by this comic at xkcd.com, and I started investigating, and I learned some stuff, and man, do I regret investigating! If you're confused by the comic, just accept it as a good thing and leave it alone.
